How to Cut Acrylic
Safe methods to cut acrylic sheet — score-and-snap, saw, laser, and CNC overview.
How to cut acrylic
Leave protective film on while cutting when possible. Support the sheet fully. Use blades and feeds rated for plastics.
Common methods
- Score and snap — thin sheets, straight cuts
- Circular / table saw — plastic-rated blade, steady feed
- Laser — clean edges on suitable grades (see laser guide)
- CNC routing — complex shapes (see CNC guide)
Avoid
Forcing dull blades, overheating the cut, and removing film too early on cosmetic faces.

FAQ
Can I cut acrylic with a utility knife?
Thin sheet can sometimes be scored and snapped. Thicker sheet usually needs a saw, laser, or CNC — or a custom-cut order.
