Important: Flame polishing is recommended primarily for clear cast and clear extruded acrylic. It is generally not recommended for polycarbonate, ABS, PVC, ACM, or most colored plastics.

When should I order edge finishing?

Edge finishing is recommended when the edge will remain visible after installation.

Edge finishing is usually not necessary when the edge will be hidden inside a frame, channel, cabinet, or other assembly.

Which thicknesses benefit the most?

Edge finishing is most noticeable on thicker materials because more of the edge is visible.

Recommended: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", 2"

It can also be applied to thinner sheets such as 1/8", particularly when appearance is important.

Edge finishing and safety

While edge finishing does not make acrylic completely injury-proof, it significantly improves handling by:

Can every edge be polished?
Yes, accessible straight edges can typically be finished. Complex internal cutouts and intricate shapes may require manual review.
Can I polish only one edge?
Yes. You can choose which edges should be finished.
Can I polish all four edges?
Yes. Many customers choose all visible edges for the best appearance.
Does edge finishing change the dimensions?
Only by a very small amount. Finished dimensions remain within normal fabrication tolerances.
Does edge finishing remove scratches?
No. Edge finishing only affects the cut edges, not the flat surfaces of the sheet.
Can I add edge finishing after receiving my order?
It is much more efficient and economical to order edge finishing during fabrication.
